Hellesdon Road Meadows, Norwich

The Project

FLP have recently provided a fresh lease of life to a toddler park at Hellesdon Road Meadows, Norwich. The park was originally installed 12 years ago where rubber play tiles were the preferred safety surfacing choice. However, over the years the surrounding trees have grown forming a large shaded canopy over the park. This in turn had encouraged algae growth on the tiles making them very slippery and unsafe to use. After consultation with their play officer it was decided the best course of action was to remove the tiles and concrete base works and to reinstate with a natural certified play bark surface.  The works also required all the steel foundation posts to be extended which was carried out by our in-house engineering department to accommodate the extra depth required for the bark surfacing. The loose fill surface laid at a depth of 300mm will provide a natural looking non slippery surfacing which is also more in keeping with the surrounding of the park.
