Isle of Ely Primary School, Cambridgeshire

The Project

Isle of Ely Primary School is a new school situated to the north of Ely.  Having recently moved into a fabulous state of the art, purpose built school building. The school got in touch with the team at Fenland Leisure Products to see if we could provide some play equipment to match their new state of the art facilities

The School was built with sustainability and eco-friendliness in mind, which is why we knew that FLP would be their perfect partner. At our Cambridgeshire based production plant we use a Biomass Heater and furnace so that any off cuts and scrap material that are created during the manufacturing process are used to keep our offices warm, and the solar panels on the roof help to run the lighting. The products are just as eco-friendly as we manufacture solely out of Safalog, an exclusively engineered and sustainable grown softwood timber, with a 15 year guarantee.

The school approached us during winter term and wanted everything in place for the New Year when thy would be taking on another 52 children into their nursery year group – ‘The Little Elvers’ after deliberating as to the best solution, just before Christmas we installed an Interactive Mud Kitchen and Raised Sandbox into the nursery areas.

The Mud Kitchen features twin sinks for washing up and making mud pies, two hobs, with spinning dials to adjust the heat and two chalkboards, ready for the children to decide what’s going to be on the menu today!

The Raised Sandpit is installed to the perfect height for the children using it, and even comes with a PVC cover to keep the sand clean and dry as standard.

It wasn’t just the Little Elvers that benefited though, the main school playing field now includes a Columbus Climber Explorer Unit which includes a set of overhead monkey bars, a hammock net, a vertical climb, as well as an included net all situated on grow through grass matting to protect any intrepid explorers from a fall.

The school hopes to add some more equipment to the school field in the summer to keep challenging the children as they progress through the year groups, so watch this space.
