Almost 12 months to the day after we first started talking to Foster Property Maintenance Ltd, regarding George Pateman Court, the transformation of the area is now complete. And what a transformation it is!
The brief of the project was to create a more open and inviting outdoor space for use of the residents and children at George Pateman court in Cambridge city centre. When we visited site to carry out our initial site survey, one of the key parts of our comprehensive consultation and design process. We were presented with an untidy, unkempt area of tarmac weeds and overgrowth, with tree roots, and a disused swing frame and surface.
Now complete, we have transformed the area creating a haven of recessed areas for community planting and flower beds, 3 solid hardwood curved benches follow the arc of the brightly coloured wetpour surfacing, and with 2 spring rockers as the finishing touch. The entire space is now an open, bright, and airy space backing on to adjacent gardens and properties.
One resident who backs directly on to the area commented that….“ it was a fantastic and much needed change, the space feels as though it’s almost an extension of my own garden, and I’m looking forward to spending some time in the sunshine on the benches”.
